In 2018, I experimented with natural pigment printing and discharge printing with natural dyes for a childrenswear clothing company. Since I focused mainly on screenprinting during college, it wasn’t a huge leap to try this process out naturally. With a careful mix of pigments and binders, I was able to achieve an “ink” that could pass through the screen without bleeding too much. The wash-fastness, on the other hand, created more of a “vintage” look than anything else. The discharge was created using lemon juice and a binder, which sometimes worked, sometimes didn’t.
